Standard screening reliably answers standard questions. Enhanced due diligence is commissioned precisely when the standard answer does not resolve the uncertainty that matters to the decision.
Questions a useful report answers
- Who ultimately controls the organisation, and how confident are we in that conclusion?
- Are there material relationships that have not been disclosed?
- Can the subject's most important claims be independently substantiated?
- What does the corporate history show, including entities that no longer exist?
- Are there relevant litigation, regulatory, insolvency, sanctions, or integrity matters?
- Are apparently separate people or companies connected?
- What could not be established, and why?
Grading matters more than volume
A three-hundred-page report that does not distinguish between a court judgment and an anonymous forum allegation has transferred the analytical burden back to the client. Sources should be identified, reliability described, and inference labelled as inference.
The gap section is the important one
Every enhanced diligence exercise has limits: jurisdictional access, record availability, language, and time. Stating them is not a weakness in the product. It is the product.
